Unlocking the decarbonising potential of maritime transport
Maritime transport accounts for 90% of global trade and relies almost entirely on fossil fuels. European policies push to decarbonise the sector, but hydrogen technologies must still prove their viability beyond the current 2-3 MW demonstrators. MARINER’s ambition is to provide this evidence at the 10 MW scale.

MARINER will deliver a proven fuel cell system scalable to 10-MW and beyond
Our project will develop a modular 1 MW hydrogen-based fuel cell system for maritime applications, composed of building blocks that can be extended to 10MW. The system will be demonstrated in simulated maritime conditions using real ship load profiles, with the goal of 80 000-hour lifetime and an installation CAPEX of €1,200/kW.
Use cases
MARINER will demonstrate the techno-economic feasibility of the modular fuel cell system on two use cases respectively focused on the tanker and ferry applications, brought by our fleet operating partners.
